Shrek, the Musical Is Coming to Manila

Open call audition for all adult roles is on March 29.

With the dazzling musical Delia D. just about to open in April, Full House Theater Company—Newport World Resorts’ resident production outfit—is already brewing something special for the ber- months. Shrek, the Musical, is having a Philippine staging from October to December 2025 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.

About Shrek, the Musical

Shrek, the Musical, with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, is based on the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film Shrek.

At the heart of the story is Shrek, an unlikely hero who embarks on a transformative journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a spirited princess who defies traditional rescue tropes. Their adventure is not just about physical quests but also about the inner journey of embracing one’s uniqueness. The stage production adds layers to the narrative with lush orchestrations and a focus on character development, making it more intimate and relatable. It has all sorts of spectacles, from costumes to the set, puppets, and even a fire-breathing dragon.

A scaled-down version was produced in the West End from 2011 to 2013. Shrek, the Musical went on with its UK and Ireland tour in 2014.

Shrek, the Musical received eight 2009 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and won for Best Costume Design of a Musical.
