Five people were killed while five others were injured after a truck fell off a cliff in Sitio Panlaisan, Barangay Pichon, Caraga town, Davao Oriental around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Initial police investigation showed the truck, owned by Legacy Construction Company, was going downhill when the driver lost control. The vehicle plunged into a ravine estimated to be 80 meters deep.
Those who died on the spot were identified as engineer Fernan Delos Santos Milan, foreman Kenneth Villacorta, laborers Jay Ar Lawag and Joley Bacalangco, and operator Arnel Genonsalao.
The injured were identified as Bryzelle James Nilo, 20; Brent Marvin Clarion, 22; Brendon Clarion, 27; Mario Abendan, 55; and driver Reformado Claros, 53. All of them are residents of Mandug, Davao City.
Reports said the five survivors managed to jump out of the truck before it crashed.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident.
